Scene Skipper
Coming soon to Roku

Skip the scenes you don't want your kids to see.

Choose the scenes you'd rather skip — from a list another parent already made, or your own. While your family watches on your Roku, Scene Skipper jumps past them for you, so no one has to hover over the remote.

We're launching soon. Leave your email and we'll send you one message when Scene Skipper is ready to download. Nothing else.

Works with Roku. 7-day free trial at launch — cancel anytime.

Decide ahead of time. Watch together.

Most filtering means someone sits in the room with a thumb on the remote, already knowing what's coming. Scene Skipper lets you make those choices once, in advance, on your own time — then your phone does the skipping.

Shared skip lists

Import a list another parent already built instead of scrubbing through the movie yourself — or make your own and share it.

Nothing to install on the TV

The Scene Skipper app on your phone or tablet talks to your Roku over your home Wi-Fi. There's no Roku channel to add and nothing to pair.

Your phone can be locked

Start the movie, lock your phone, and set it down. Keep it at home on the same Wi-Fi as the Roku, with notifications on.

Tells you if it stops

If your phone loses the Roku — it left the house, or the Wi-Fi dropped — the app lets you know instead of quietly giving up.

One login for the family

Sign in with the same account on each parent's phone or tablet. No extra charge for more phones.

Nothing tracked for ads

No ads, no advertising trackers, and we don't sell your data. See our privacy policy.

How it works

  1. Install Scene Skipper on your phone or tablet. It's coming first to iPhone and iPad, with Android soon after. Create one account for your household.
  2. Let the app find your Roku. It looks for your Roku on your home Wi-Fi automatically — nothing to install on the TV.
  3. Pick a skip list. Import one another parent made, or mark the start and end of the scenes you want skipped yourself.
  4. Play the movie on your Roku. Scene Skipper jumps past the scenes on your list. Keep your phone at home on the same Wi-Fi as the Roku — you can lock it.

Tip: an old phone or tablet left by the TV works great as the family's Scene Skipper device.

Scene Skipper skips whole scenes. Muting individual words isn't available yet.

What you need

You needDetails
A Roku Any Roku streaming player or Roku TV on your home Wi-Fi. Roku is the only TV device supported right now — more devices are coming.
A phone or tablet iPhone or iPad (Android coming soon), kept at home on the same Wi-Fi as the Roku while the movie plays.
A supported streaming app on the Roku Disney+, Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Peacock, Paramount+, or Apple TV+.
An ad-free plan Your streaming subscription needs to be an ad-free plan. Ads throw off the timing, so we don't support ad-supported plans yet.

Max isn't supported on Roku. Fire TV, Google TV, Apple TV, and Samsung TVs aren't supported yet.

Simple pricing at launch

Scene Skipper is a subscription — $4.99/month or $29.99/year. One subscription covers your household's account, on as many of your family's phones and tablets as you like.

Start with a 7-day free trial. Cancel before it ends in your App Store subscriptions and you won't be charged. If your subscription ends, it simply stops skipping and your saved lists stay put.

How Scene Skipper plays your movies

It doesn't. Scene Skipper is a remote control: it tells the streaming app on your Roku to jump forward past a scene, using your own subscription on your own TV. We never copy, store, decrypt, or re-stream any video or audio — we only store the timestamps in your lists. Nothing is altered or saved; the scene simply isn't shown in your living room.
