Terms of Use

Effective date: [FOUNDER: effective date] · Last updated: 23 September 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and us about using Scene Skipper (the mobile app, our website, and the servers behind them — together, "the service"). We've tried to write them in plain language. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

1. Who we are

Scene Skipper is operated by [FOUNDER: LLC legal name], a [FOUNDER: state] limited liability company ("Scene Skipper," "we," "us"), [FOUNDER: mailing address]. You can reach us any time at [email protected].

2. What Scene Skipper is — and isn't

Scene Skipper helps parents skip scenes they've chosen while their family watches movies and shows at home. A parent picks or builds a skip list; when a listed scene comes up, the app on your phone or tablet sends your Roku the same kind of standard playback command a remote control sends (such as "jump forward" or "pause"), over your home network.

3. What you need, and honest limits

To use Scene Skipper you need:

We work hard to make skipping reliable, but we want to be straightforward: Scene Skipper depends on things we don't control — your Roku, the streaming apps, your Wi-Fi, your phone's operating system, and notification delivery. Any of these can change or hiccup, so a skip can occasionally be late or missed, and skip lists (especially community lists) may not exactly match every version of a title. We don't guarantee that every scene will be skipped. Scene Skipper is a helpful tool, not a substitute for a parent's judgment — supervising what your children watch remains your responsibility.

5. Subscriptions and the free trial

6. Community skip lists

You can publish your skip lists for other families and request lists from the community. When you publish:

7. Acceptable use

Please don't:

8. Our app and license

We own the Scene Skipper app, website, and service (other than content you publish). While you follow these terms, we give you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable license to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your household's private, non-commercial use.

9. Additional terms for iPhone and iPad users

If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, and the following terms apply too:

If you use the Android app, Google Play's terms also apply to your purchase and download.

10. Ending your use

You can stop using Scene Skipper and delete your account at any time from Settings in the app (remember to cancel your subscription separately in the App Store or Google Play). We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, abuse the service, or if we're required to by law; where reasonable, we'll tell you why. If we discontinue the service entirely, we'll give reasonable advance notice. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as 6, 11, 12, 13, and 15) survive termination.

11. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent the law allows, the service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every scene will be skipped. Some places don't allow these exclusions, so some may not apply to you. [FOUNDER/LAWYER: confirm disclaimer wording for governing-law state and consumer-protection rules.]

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Scene Skipper and its owners, employees, and contractors won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any content seen or heard because a skip was late or missed. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months before the claim or [FOUNDER/LAWYER: amount, e.g. US$50]. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited under applicable law.

13. Indemnity

If a third party brings a claim against us because of lists you published or your breach of these terms or misuse of the service, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs from that claim, to the extent the law allows. [FOUNDER/LAWYER: confirm scope/enforceability for consumer users.]

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service changes. The effective date at the top shows when they last changed. For material changes, we'll give notice in the app or by email at least [FOUNDER/LAWYER: e.g. 14] days before they take effect. If you keep using the service after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account.

15. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of [FOUNDER: state], without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and applicable U.S. federal law. Before filing any claim, please email us so we can try to resolve it informally. [FOUNDER/LAWYER: venue/courts, small-claims option, and whether to include an arbitration clause and class-action waiver.] If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. These terms (with the Privacy Policy and, where applicable, Apple's or Google's terms) are the whole agreement between you and us about the service.
